| Long Beach |
Renowned for its harbor and trade, the City of Long Beach was once modeled as an “international city.” Long Beach, the state's fifth largest city, became a city in 1897 and has been a major center of trade, tourism, and technology ever since. For the past few years, the city has been restoring and cleaning up its diverse, multi-cultural image. Some years into the rejuvenation of this beautiful port town, Long Beach is showing signs of life that it has never before exhibited. Pine Avenue is emerging as a central area full of restaurants, bars, and music venues. The freshly developed Pike offers cinemas, restaurants, bars, and plenty of family fun. An area that once was avoided by most people, downtown Long Beach has been revitalized and is now considered one of the best expanding markets in Southern California. Other areas, such as the artsy East-side and eclectic Fourth Street also offer galleries, stores, and restaurants. And the laid back feel of Belmont Shores attracts people from all walks of life to its restaurants, stores, and boutiques. Artist lofts and condominium projects abound in this revitalized area. Much like the rejuvenated area of downtown San Diego, many professionals and investors are choosing downtown Long Beach as their new headquarters. With the new additions to downtown, the city of Long Beach can once again hold high the label of “international city.” This culturally diverse city finally has the refined architecture to meet its distinct needs. |
